The Power of a Growth Mindset
There’s a difference between being busy and being better. A growth mindset is what helps you focus on the latter.
Coined by psychologist Carol Dweck, a growth mindset is the belief that skills and intelligence can be developed through effort, feedback, and learning.
It’s the opposite of thinking, “I’m just not good at this.” Instead, it’s saying, “I’m not good at this… yet.”
For founders and entrepreneurs, this mindset isn’t just helpful — it’s essential.
Why?
Because you’re constantly navigating new terrain. Whether you’re launching a new product, managing a growing team, or pitching to investors, challenges are part of the job. A fixed mindset can stop you before you even start. But with a growth mindset? You lean in, learn fast, and keep moving.
This inaugural article you are reading now is a great example of such a growth mindset. People said we were crazy for commiting to a DAILY newsletter. But if we want to build our business and build our community, then it is a commitment worth making. And if I had that fixed mindset, then I would have simply talked myself out of it. I nearly did!
But that growth mindset that drives so many entrepreneurs and creatives says; embrace the challenge.. and see what doors to opportunity you open along the way.
And counterintuitively, a daily newsletter is almost easier than a weekly or monthly one because it demands discipline and a great process to remove the friction of writing and posting. Anyone who has commited to a lifestyle goal or even a gym membership knows how hard it is to find that motivation to keep going.
Here’s the thing; if you put that commitment into an action plan, or a diary, or to a personal coach, then it is consistency that gets you through, not just motivation per se!
Here’s something simple you can try today:
Think of one recent challenge or “failure” and reframe it. What did you learn? How might that experience actually be a stepping stone?
Better yet, ask yourself: “If I fully believed I could improve at anything with time and effort, what would I tackle next?”
Growth isn’t just about success. It’s about becoming someone who’s always evolving. And that’s what great leadership is made of. After all, change is the only constant.
Now it’s your turn:
What’s one thing you’ve been avoiding because you think you’re “not good at it”? How would your mindset change if you saw it as a skill you’re still developing?
